Before I embark on my holiday, I always love browsing through travel blogs that recommend the top 5 places to visit, or the top 5 foods to eat. However, I feel as though I don’t have enough information to really appreciate what I am seeing or eating. Hence, I’ve developed this site to try to put things into context by providing a little background info and piece together some form of an itinerary for the aspiring traveller to follow. So, rather than give you the short and quick version of things, this site aims to equip you with not just the where, but also the what, why and how. I hope that this makes your travel experience richer, complete and more memorable…

Nuremberg, the second largest city in Bavaria after Munich and about an hour’s drive from Regensburg, makes for a great overnight stay or two. Although this picturesque city isn’t as old as Roman Regensburg, it still boasts a fascinating and rich history: an imperial city in medieval times – evident in its well-preserved 11th century…

Walk I: Today’s walk follows the canals of Rattanakosin Island. Begin at the majestic Democracy Monument, then hop over for breakfast at a local favourite, Mont NomSod. Later, explore the iconic Giant Swing and Grade I Temple of Wat Suthat, before indulging in brunch at Jay Fai, a one Michelin-starred eatery. End the walk with…

And so the bad puns continue. Part II of my Cologne series starts from where we left off, near the restaurants and cafes around Fischmarkt, and heads away from the Rhine to cover some of the other interesting sights within the old town. Along the way, we’ll pass by fascinating museums, picturesque churches and take…

Sorry for the bad pun, but I couldn’t resist. The fourth most populous city in Germany, Cologne (or Köln in German), in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, straddles the bend of the river Rhine. Its old town, Romanesque churches and massive gothic Cathedral are nestled on the west bank; the new town, with its large…

About an hour and a half’s drive from Munich Airport is the small university town and former capital of Bavaria, Regensburg. This UNESCO World Heritage site is Germany’s best preserved medieval town and was once the northernmost outpost of the Roman Empire, when a fort, Castra Regina, was built during the reign of Emperor Marcus…

It is easy to think of Germany as a single country, but this economic engine of the European Union, now famed for its banking and finance industry, precision engineering and quality performance cars and high speed trains, was previously a cluster of city-states and free imperial cities, only to be unified into its present form…

Harajuku leads the pack in terms of funky world-class fashion, classy boutiques and stylish cafes. Handily located along the Yamanote Line, it’s a place to unwind and people watch (or gape, if you are at Takeshita Street) over the rim of a coffee mug, after being overwhelmed by the crowds of Shibuya and the rapacity…

Now lets talk a bit about Ubud. This administrative district of around 40 square kilometres is located in the uplands of the small Indonesian island of Bali, about 2 hours drive from the main city of Denpasar. Surrounded by rice terraces, lush tropical forests, mountains and ravines, Ubud attracts both tourists and devotees to visit…

Walk 2: From Wat Arun to Siriraj Hospital This walk continues on from Part I, and connects the beautiful and iconic Wat Arun with the huge Navy headquarters fronting the river, followed by a delightful local market and ending with an educational yet morbid curiosity in the heart of Siriraj. When taking a ferry ride…

Walk 1: From Krung Thonburi to Wat Arun (new updates in March 2025!) This half-a-day to full day walk splices together some of the hidden gems and dazzling jewels of the old city of Thonburi, formerly the capitol of Thailand. Besides savouring historic architecture and laid-back cafes along the riverside, it also provides an insightful…
